HIV Advocates News: HIV/Aids detection is now possible with a simple scan

 

HIV Advocates is an awareness program aimed at sharing the recent developments in HIV diagnosis and cure. HIV is a very difficult virus to treat – it undergoes rapid mutations and transfers to other cells of the body. Any drug removes the virus from the blood, but not from the body. The virus becomes dormant, and can become active after a period of time. The activation is due to picked up genetic mutations, making it resistant to previously used drug regimens. The key to permanent cure of HIV is isolating HIV strains and then develop drugs targeting the specific strain.

 

A team of scientists from Emroy University and Imperial College London have collaborated on a research aimed at diagnosing HIV by a simple scan. The idea originated from antibodies which could attach themselves to the HIV strain in monkeys, SIV. Radioactive antibodies were injected in the monkeys, and a subsequent PET Scan revealed the presence of viral gp120 protein across the tissues of monkeys – excluding the brain. They are working around to get the antibodies to also enter the brain and show viral reservoirs. Further development includes isolating viral reservoirs in specific cells in the body. Research is also being undertaken to make antibodies against viral protein gp120, as it would prevent HIV strains from picking up further mutations, making the treatment This scan can make the diagnosis and elimination of HIV much easier than methods used before.

First of all, it’s called pork belly because it is meat that is cut from the belly and side of a pig, right below the ribs. Pork Belly can be roasted, chopped and fried, barbequed whole, cooked slow, or crisped up on the grill. Italian Omega-3 Pork Belly Porchetta

 

• Butterfly a pork belly so that it is a long and thin slab.
• Lay meat side up and season with salt and pepper and fresh herbs
• Chop dried fruits, bacon, garlic, and ginger and spread the mixture on the pork belly
• Roll up the pork, tie with string, and score the skin with a knife
• Roast at 275 degrees C until skin is golden brown
• Remove and pour 2 cups of apple juice over the roast and then replace in a 125 degree oven for 2.5 to 3 more hours
• Slice and serve as part of an Italian feast!

 

Maybe the only downside to pork belly is the high fat content. This can discourage some people from enjoying pork belly, but omega-3 pork from HKScan is not like other pork bellies because omega-3 pork belly is rich in healthy, unsaturated fats that are good for you. HIV Advocates Agrees on the Right to Rehabilitation for Injectable Drug Users

HIV Advocates is an HIV awareness program, which aims to share news, developments, and human rights movements as we battle HIV.  

 

The war on drugs and drug users is necessary for the eradication of HIV. Sharing needles for blood transfusion, and use of one syringe by multiple drug users predisposes the addicts to HIV by transmission. It is estimated that there are 12.2 million PWID (People Who inject Drugs) worldwide, and around 1.65 million (13.5%) of this population are thought to be living with HIV. HIV prevalence among PWID is highest in South-West Asia (29.3%) and Eastern and South-Eastern Europe (22.8%).

 

The main method by which HIV propagates is by sharing needles. If a needle has been used by an HIV-infected person, using the same needle for drug injection will result in the infected blood being transfused in the next user. About 5-10% new HIV cases result from sharing needles, and about 80% of new HIV cases in Central Asia results from sharing of needles between drug users.

 

In many Asian countries, it is compulsory for people who inject drugs (PWID) to check into drug detention centres. These people have no access to rehabilitation therapies, such as psychological support, opioid substitution therapy or symptomatic treatment for withdrawal symptoms. Once released, they can go back to drug abuse, with the intensity severe than the previous habit. Instead of keeping the people in detention centres, the health sector of the respective countries should aim to target reductions in HIV transmission by the provision of single-use disposable needles, which are available at cheaper rates to everyone. Opioid substitution programs should be mass-marketed, and monitoring programs should be introduced. Stigma and discrimination against drug users and HIV-infected people needs to be eliminated, for better provision of health and community support.

 

HIV Advocates needs support from communities, and from people of all age groups, especially the younger ones – they have the motivation and energy which can be put to this cause. We also encourage the use of social media to create awareness about HIV prevention, and to negate the stigma associated with HIV and substance abuse.
